Over the last few years, I’ve deliberately avoided going to the dentist, ignored reminder emails to book my next check-up, and consciously turned my head away while walking past my dentist. I avoided it not because I feared the dentist – but because I just cannot stand the dental drilling sound. What’s more, it had been such a long time since I had been to the dentist that now I was too embarrassed to go. Although, knowing that feeling ashamed will not change a thing, I finally braved a visit to the dentist.
